A Timeline of Innovation
Early 1900s - The Pioneers
Studebaker, Waverly Electric, Anderson Carriage, and Milburn Electric put Indiana on the map as an early leader in electric vehicle development.
1990s - Drivetrain R&D Takes Root
GM and Delphi advanced drivetrain research and development in the region. The Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane established a full-spectrum power systems facility for defense applications.
2000s - Hybrid & Battery Breakthroughs
BAE Systems and Allison Transmission developed hybrid drivetrains for commercial and military applications. EnerDel and Altairnano pushed traction battery technology forward.

AMVIC brings together public and private innovators to develop, validate, and deploy next-generation energy solutions-continuing Indiana's legacy of power system leadership.
